Truppenführung

This was the German Army Manual for Unit Command in World War II. It is recommended reading for any World War II re-enactor, particularly those who are in leadership positions.

In his Forward to the 2001 English translation edited by Condell and Zabecki, James S. Corum, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Reserve and then a Professor at the USAF School of Advanced Airpower Studies writes,

"In many respects, like much of Clausewitz's On War, Truppenführung is a historical period piece. However, there is much about the nature of operations, of leadership, and even of combat tactics in this book that is as valid today as it was when it was written almost 70 years ago....This translation offers some important insights into the nature of operations and tactics, and I would strongly recommend this book to military officers and NCOs."

The Introduction and chapter on Command are excerpted in a pdf for you to review. Look for a full copy of the Stackpole Books version "On The German Art of War - Truppenführung" at your local bookstore or online.

Also available for download is the full copy of Armor for Re-enactors, written by veteran U.S. Army tankers.
